Using VLC Media Player to convert mp4 to mp3 format

About VLC Media Player
VLC media player is a highly portable multimedia player for various audio and video formats as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols without external codec or program.
It can also be used as a server to stream in unicast or multicast in IPv4 or IPv6 on a high-bandwidth network.
VLC can play:
- MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 / DivX files from a hard disk, a CD-ROM drive, and so on
- DVDs, VCDs, and Audio CDs
- From satellite cards (DVB-S)
- Several types of network streams: UDP/RTP Unicast, UDP/RTP Multicast, HTTP, RTSP, MMS, etc.
- From acquisition or encoding cards (on GNU/Linux and Windows only)
MP4 to MP3 format conversion
To convert an mp4 file format to mp3 format please do the following. Open VLC Media Player then click on the Media tab then navigate to Convert / Save on the drop down.
Select File(s) to be converted
Under Open Media window select the file to be converted by clicking on Add tab. Click on Open once the file to be converted has been selected.

Convert the File
Once the file has been selected navigate to the lower right part of the window then click on the small drop down arrow then select on convert.
Conversion Parameters
Under Convert window navigate to a folder on the local machine as to the location of the file being converted will be saved. Under Profile select Audio - MP3 then click on start to begin the conversion process.
Conversion Progress
On the main window of VLC Media Player it would show up the progress status of the conversion. Once the conversion is finished navigate to the folder where the converted file is saved then try to do some test and play the converted file.
